Zeylan Gems

We take our name from the country’s colonial past, Dutch name Zeylan, later the British called it as Ceylon.
Sri Lanka’s gem industry has a very long and colorful history.
Sri Lanka was affectionately known as Ratna-Dweepa which means Gem Island.
Marco Polo wrote that the island had the best sapphires, topazes, amethysts, and other gems in the world. Ptolemy the 2nd century astronomer recorded that beryl and sapphire were the mainstay of Sri Lanka’s gem industry.

Our Story

From family business spanning across three generations and 60+ years centered around the Beruwala gem market, Zeylan Gems was officially incorporated as a business in year 2000 as a partnership company, the business partners are the family members.

Our business office is situated in the Paththe Gem Market in China Fort, Beruwala.

Delivering Quality and Promise

For over sixty years we are consistently delivering our promise of quality. We supply only fine quality gemstones, for treatment we only use the traditional heat treatment which is done for centuries in Sri Lanka and widely accepted in the gemological faternity. No gemstone is treated or enhanced using color diffusion treatment, beryllium treatment, glass filling or any other treatment which is not disclosed at the point of sale.
